Let’s spread some joy this Christmas….
What is the rock drop craze all about?
The idea of a “Rock Drop” is you paint rocks then place them in one of our three Kawana Forest parks (not too hidden) for someone to find. Then you take a photo of your hidden rock and post it online the KaFRA Facebook group (in the comments of the Rock Drop post). Now it’s up to someone else to find your rock! Once found, this person then posts online that they have found the rock and have now hidden it in a new location. This way, the fun keeps going!
To get involved in this rock drop fun, you will need:
Rocks – A flat smooth rock/stone
Paint – Acrylic paints or paint pens (Posca Paints from Officeworks) or permanent markers if you have a base coat painted on first.
Brushes – If you are using paints, you’ll need some small brushes.
Sealant – Use an external weather clear spray or paint on sealers to coat the top so your beautiful artwork does not wash away.
Aldi recently has had some Rock Painting kits in store for $7.99.
Join us for a community all-ages rock painting workshop at Kurrajong park Sunday 13 December 3pm (children must be accompanied by a guardian). KaFRA will bring everything you need to create your masterpiece.
Note: If you can’t make the workshop and you would like some supplies please let KaFRA know so we can help supply you with what you need.
Looking for ideas on what to paint:
Pinterest has some great ideas, think Christmas, animals, kindness messages, your favourite cartoon or superheroes, or just wherever your creative mind takes you.
You don’t have to be creative or an artist to get involved. I’m a stick person kind of girl, but I watched a YouTube and followed along and created this rock it isn’t perfect but I’m sure it will bring joy to someone that finds it and that is the purpose of our Christmas rock drop. We also have some books with ideas and how-to guides.
